Time Sharing - Daan Padmos
"Time Sharing," a Corten steel sculpture by Dutch artist Daan Padmos, 1949-2022, commemorates the Dutch settlement along the Hudson River in Peekskill, NY. Installed in 2009 for the “Double Dutch” exhibition, the piece reflects on the early Dutch presence, symbolizing a house seemingly rolled off a ship, perched on a cylinder near the water. It challenges the concept of land ownership, aligning with the Native American belief that land is shared, not owned. The installation was a community effort, and despite being displaced by Hurricane Sandy, it remains a poignant tribute on Peekskill’s waterfront. Padmos, originally from Rotterdam, was known for his steel sculptures inspired by global travels and American culture.
